Medifast Food Info For Losing Weight After Pregnancy

Why Medifast for Pregnancy Weight Loss?

Most women tend to think  that simply because they are pregnant, it’s permission for ‘free for all’ eating.  They allow themselves to indulge in anything and everything with the thinking of  “I’m eating for two”.  The truth is, we only need about 300 extra calories a day during pregnancy to grow a healthy baby.

It’s very important to eat healthy foods with quality proteins, carbs, vitamins and minerals during pregnancy.  Medifast meals are most known for use by people who want to loose weight safely.  They are perfect for losing pregnancy weight after baby is born.  They are also used by many to maintain a healthy weight once they achieve healthy goal weight.

Medifast meals are perfect for pregnancy weight loss because they are nutritionally balanced, Dr. recommended, and are made with quality ingredients to keep you  nutritionally fed. The best part?  They are low calorie.  So… you can eat a bit more often.  (Best practice for health and vitality is to eat 6 small meals a day about 2-3 hours apart.)  These Medifast meals are designed to support you with that type of eating and lifestyle.

You’ll find that you will have more energy throughout the day and as you lose the weight gained you needed for pregnancy.

How often should I have my Medifast Meals?
Health and nutrition experts have come to agree that the best way to stay healthy, maintain a good weight, keep blood sugar levels even and obtain vitality, we should eat ‘mini meals’ every 2 to 3 hours.  Depending on your height, weight, age and level of physical activity, daily caloric needs vary from person to person.  A good rule of thumb though, is for the average person to consume between 1200 and 2000 kcal per day.

It is important to start each day with a schedule, allotting specific times for eating your meals. Build 6 time slots for meals into your daily schedule and strive to be as consistent with this eating schedule as possible. If you know your schedule will shift a little (perhaps on weekends), make sure to shift your meal times accordingly.

For Pregnancy weight loss we recommend that you eat your Medifast Meals  within a 24-hour period, regardless of what time your day starts. No matter when your day starts, try to have your first meal within an hour of waking, then eat another meal every two to three hours after that.

Eating every 2 to 3 hours helps to keep blood sugar levels more stable, ward off hunger, and keep metabolism active.

What type of soy is in Medifast?

Medifast uses Supro® brand soy protein, a high-quality complete protein derived from soybeans. Supro® is produced by The Solae Company. The Solae Company has been conducting soy protein research for more than 30 years.

What are the benefits of soy?
Not only is soy protein a source of high-quality protein, it is thought to play both a preventative and therapeutic role in the following:

  • Studies show naturally occurring isoflavones (such as those in Supro® brand soy protein) have increased the mineral content and density of bones, which may protect against the risk of bone fractures and osteoporosis.
  • Studies have indicated that a regular intake of soy foods may help to prevent hormone-related cancers such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer.
  • Soy works to lower LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) levels in the blood. Reductions in LDL cholesterol have been shown to help decrease the risk for heart disease.
  • Soy may reduce triglyceride levels and increases HDL cholesterol levels (good cholesterol), which further reduces the risk of heart disease.
  • Soy isoflavones, which are a natural phytoestrogen source, may help reduce menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes or night sweats.
  • Soy is a complete protein, providing all of the essential amino acids.

What does it cost?

The average of $16 a day the average American adult spends on food (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 2006 Consumer Expenditure Survey).  For people who use the Take Shape for Life Medifast program for healthy weight loss – the daily cost is about $11/day (or $299.50/month when you take advantage of our convenient Variety Packages; buying foods individually may cost slightly more).

During pregnancy, you will not be using the Take Shape for Life Medifast progam to lose weight.  After baby is born and you are ready to lose your pregancy weight, you will work with your health coach to  these high quality,  nutritionally balanced mini meals to help you eat your recommended 6 small portioned meals through out the day.  These mini meals are perfect for the ‘Grab and Go’ meals.  Depending on which of the 70 plus food choices you order, if you consume 2-3 a day, your cost is about $2-3 per meal.  When you are on the go – that is a great savings, provides you peace of mind, and helps you get the fiber you need and avoid unhealthy food choice fillers.

Medifast does not charge enrollment or membership fees, so you’ll pay only for your food!

Most people find the cost of Medifast comparable to what they’re already spending on food.  Between the grocery store and fast food, we spend much more money on food than we realize, and we often don’t make the healthiest of choices. When you also consider the additional benefits inherent in every Medifast Meal (doctor-formulated, vitamin- fortified, portion-controlled), Medifast equates to an even greater value. What’s more, if you’re currently spending money on prescriptions for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or type 2 diabetes, getting to a healthy weight can reduce – or even eliminate – your need for these costly meds.
